Therapeutic Benefits For Children
Educators will improve wellbeing learning outcomes by developing knowledge of various therapeutic processes and creative modalities including the best practice materials.
The therapeutic benefits of guided art activities in the classroom will help children:
• build a sense of autonomy by recognising and acknowledging their emotions,
• learn relaxation techniques to manage their emotions,
• use visualisation techniques to create stories and foster imagination,
• explore materials with different sensory properties,
• explore artistic expression to represent perceptions,
• express themselves and make meaning through various art mediums.

Sandplay & Artistic Therapies
Educators routinely engage children in a diverse range of activities using art. This program helps educators bring awareness to existing activities and lead structured therapeutic processes as well as expanding their knowledge base using a variety of materials, e.g., watercolour paints, sand tray, clay, and crayons complimented by grounding techniques and attachment theory.
Educators will develop skills in guiding conversations with children about recognising and naming emotions to support improved emotional regulation, and dysregulation recovery coaching. Additionally, the structured learning content will enable Educators to make connections between children’s actions or creative expression and their emotions.

Kindy Uplift Professional Development Program
This professional development program will support educators in reflective practice, to identify and reflect on elements of their current practice and how this could be shaped or refined to better align with priority areas of the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG).
By having a shared understanding, staff can more efficiently engage in both formal and informal peer supervision to share reflections and observations. This could also support consistent language and approaches to how educators engage with families to communicate events and achievements within the context of evidence informed content.

This program was an amazing experience not only to learn about how we could support children’s emotional regulation using artistic expression but build our own capacity to understand our own emotions as part of this relationship.

A thought provoking session for all participants. Leigh is a calm well spoken instructor who supported us through highlighting our strengths and guiding us all the way through the sessions. We certainly have been given much to consider.

Our presenter, Leigh opened up my eyes to the power of therapy through art. My team and I were very comfortable with her methods and felt able to express our own emotions through the tools used within the course. It's great to have another avenue of communicating with children who otherwise are unable to express how they feel. A really interesting course, I highly recommend. Thank you Leigh
